35) The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani; finished 9/16/12; What a refreshing book to read after my rather bleak previous book! Based upon the lives of the author's Italian immigrant grandparents, it runs though the gamut of human emotions and through the early 20th century through World War II.

37) The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons; finished 10/1/12; I really did enjoy this book if one can enjoy the terrible times of the Siege of Leningrad during World War II. Without giving anything away, the middle of the book does get bogged down with a fixation on one thing, but I persevered through it all and remained focused on the important part of the plot.

39) Tatiana and Alexander by Paullina Simons; finished 10/17/12; I liked this, but I could have done without all the italicized flashbacks in Lazarovna. I got it about their physical relationship in the first book. Actually any time I saw italics, I flipped through the pages.

41) The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley; finished 11/1/12; I love Susanna Kearsley books, but I loved her later books a bit more than this one.

This one keeps hopping onto my Ammy recommends. Is it worth the trouble to pick it up?

42) The Gallows Curse by Karen Maitland; finished 11/4/12; I've read Maitland's other books and I thought this one was a bit predictable. Also I have issues with the resolution of a murder plot line.

If the reader does not know much about the current royal family, I think it would not be as enjoyable as there is some assumption of basic knowledge. It was a fun read for me, and I think fun reads are necessary every once in a while. My husband did read it (limited knowledge of the royals but I think he occasionally does listen to my ramblings) and he thought it was OK.

You can read an excerpt here and see what you think. The excerpt is from the beginning of the book. http://www.williamkuhn.com/bio.htm
