Thanks for your candid review of the Sharp. Having already read plenty of fiction about the Romanovs that doesn't deserve the term "historical," I appreciate your thoughts and will avoid the book.

It was pretty awful. It was so unbelievable and unlikely, and the author just kept digging herself into the hole, and it just got deeper and uglier.

I second that thanks Telynor, I had the Little K book on my wishlist and it's now been removed! I couldn't put up with the idea of Nicholas II returning to Mathilde as a lover after his marriage.

It was that got the wallbanger push. It was such an unlikely, silly twist -- given that Nicholas was very much in love with his wife, I can't imagine him straying. And there must have been temptation all around him. The other point were the letters that Mathilde wrote to Alix before the wedding, and that would have really set him off -- I would think that he would have been ready to choke that woman for doing that.

Well. It's done for the year, at least the review writing -- I'm just not in the mood to write anything today. Just tea, telly, and a book with a cat or two or three. As always, comments and hits on the reviews are most welcome.
