DNF,
The Sheen on the Silk by Anne Perry[/quote]
Forever Amber: one of my favorites. I re-read it once every few years. Amber is the kind of heroine you want to slap silly in various places, but I loved it nonetheless. It illustrates the reason why "men don;t marry their mistresses."
The Sheen on the Silk: a DNF for me, too ( hung on as long as I could, though!). It meandered and seemed to go NOWHERE, especially since it seemed to be confused about what genre it wanted to be: straight historical, or mystery? Either way, it just didn't work for me.

If you ever want to read about old Montana and Copper mining check out Winsor's Wanderers Eastward Wanderers West.
Sheen on the silk, between you, CB and JL (on Amazon, a friend of mine) we're all pretty much in agreement and CB and JL and read and enjoyed her novels. What a disappointment.

I forced myself to finish Sheen; I kept saying to myself "it has to get better..." All of the worst elements of her other books (endless ramblings about metaphysical/existential stuff) and none of the good part (dramatic suspense). Oh, how I wanted a good/appealing Byzantine novel, not one that was all blood'n'guts'sex. Bah humbug.

I am very glad I didn't bother further. When I read the one two star review that was already up and found my thoughts completely in line with hers, as well as thinking *frankly my dear, I don't give a damn* I bailed. Too many good books to read.
I'm sure Harriet will love it though
Some abandoned books to add to the Feb pile,
My Unfair Lady by Katheryne Kennedy
Conceit by Mary Novik
Shades of Gray by Jessica James
The Queen's Governess by Karen Harper
I think I need a new listmania on Amazon, not necessarily wall bangers but just not the book for me.

One more, I did suck it up and finished off the last of Vanora Bennett's The Queen's Lover. Thank God it's over and I can move on....

I agree, she was quite a woman.
