It's no secret that I was not a fan of Pillars of the Earth. So I was not sure about the recommendation in a book group for his new book Fall of Giants, about WWI. The time period is certainly of interest to me, so I want to read it. But I wanted to see if others here read it and what their impressions were. Is it as graphic and poorly written as Pillars? How historically accurate?
I haven't tackled this myself (my enthusiasm for blockblockers is diminishing along with my eyesight) but Sarah Johnson (Ariadne) reviewed it for the Globe and Mail, and her reviews are always thoughtful and considered.

Moloka'i is one of my favorite novels. Enjoy!

I'm reading Sarah Kernochan's Jane Was Here... a time-slip thriller set in modern-day and early 19th century Massachusetts.

I finally took the plunge and started on the monster The Far Pavilions by MM Kaye. I'm really loving it so far!

Finished Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and am now half way through John Jakes' The Bastard.

I have Moloka'i on my "short list" which means I'm likely to pick it in the next few months.

Blood Games by the oddly named Yarbro Chelsea Quinn. As a vampire book, this is so not my type of novel, but it's set at the time of Nero, and it came highly recommended by someone whose opinion I value. About 1/3 of the way in, and enjoying it.

I'm nearing the end of "Elizabeth I: A Novel" by Margaret George - I've really enjoyed it so far.
