Just finished Priya Parmar's Exit the Actress. It was difficult to get into at first because of the writing style, but it all came together and was a very enjoyable read. After waiting almost a year, I finally get to read C.W Gortner's Confessions of Catherine de Medici and am super excited!
I liked Exit The Actress, too. Hope you enjoy Mme de Medici!

Finally getting around to reading Justinian by Turtlebaum, a book many here suggested to me for my interest in all things Byzantium. Liking it so far.

I've finished "Justinian's Flea: Plague, Empire, and the Birth of Europe" by William Rosen (325pgs, 2007)*. An interesting look at this time period, not so much a biography of Justinian, as a look at his and other contemporary people and events of his time period.
The name of the actual bay that book is based on escapes me, but do look up the images of before and after on the web. The power of nature is pretty scary stuff at times.
Oh no kidding. It's Lituya Bay, and that last third of the book is harrowing. I really enjoyed it, and it's fueled my desire to go see the actual place now. The book is getting five stars from me, good stuff, and very affecting.

Glad you liked it. IIRC it was present tense (which I loathe), so I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. SPOILER (click to view) Do you think what's his name was really the good hearted soul he was at first, or was he really intent on murder?
