Finished Flint by Margaret Redfern and starting The Passionate Brood by MC Barnes. I dearly hope Sourcebooks has a larger font with their new issue in the fall, as my library copy is tiny indeed.
At home with a good book and the cat...
...is the only place I want to be

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

I have started Cathedral of the Sea. I do hope it picks up from the OTT doom-and-gloom in the beginning. Maybe in Spain this is considered the normal way to start a book: hit 'em with piles of dreary and unsavory details before they have a chance to care about any of the characters.

Nope, it's pretty much unremitting tragedy right through. Times were certainly harsh for the lower classes, and especially for women.

Currently reading some NF- a book about the Great Game between Russia and England called "A Ride to Khiva", by Capt. Frederick Gustavus Burnaby. Burnaby was a classic dashing Victorian master of derring-do, and according to this intriguing post, an early casualty of the cult of celebrity.

Going to start... The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne on my holiday.
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!
- "Into Battle"
