Interest in HF: The first historical novel I read was Katherine by Anya Seton and this sparked off my interest in this genre.

I'd like to nominate The Book of Fires by Jane Borodale.
I was impressed by this book, and thought Borodale's use of language particularly vivid- I wasn't surprised to discover that she is an artist. I posted a review at Margaret's HNI site:

I'm reading The Book of Fires now (got an early copy -- it's out in the US in January). I'd go for it.
