Oh please do tell us what you think of "Godiva" it's on my BF queue but I'm ambivalent about reading it without more reviews about it.

I have "Suspicions" as my ship next at BF.

I promise to post my thoughts. I'm always leery when there are so few reviews, although the one that is on Amazon now is a reviewer who usually marches with my tastes (most of the time :) ).

It's not a time period I usually read and so I don't want to waste a book on a wallbanger if it's bad or subpar. But I know you'll tell us the unvarnished truth! :D

Yeah, but don't forget how often I'm the only one throwing it against the wall when everyone else loves it. I could swear there was a review posted on this site as well. Off to check...

Edited, yes there is, link here.

I read that, but I'm still not sure about it.

Today I ordered "Royal Portraits in Hollywood: Filming the Lives of Queens", though it seems I have awhile to wait because the shipping estimate is May 13, 2009 - May 28, 2009, and on the page it says 1 to 2 months. Oh well.

Bought a non fiction account of the Florence floods of 1966: Dark Water by Robert Clark. I'd been interested in this since reading Hellenga's Sixteen Pleasures, and was surprised not to find much in the way of histories written about it (tho the periodicals of the time gave me a wealth of info). So far this looks very interesting.

I've just added my thoughts ( for what they're worth) to the review of Nerys Jones' "Godiva"[/I.] It's quite a thoughtful, melancholic story, more psychological drama than action tale.

Aldith, wife to Harold Godwinsson, was the daughter of Aelfgar, son of Earl Leofric of Mercia, Godiva's second husband. Aelfgar was Godiva's step-son.
