Book shopping today ...
I knew about the controversy with the second book, but I bought it anyway because I like the main character and the price was right. I'll probably save it for a summer read, ignore the inaccuracies, and read it as a mystery and fantasy as you suggest.
I changed my mind about reading The Serpent's Tale by Ariana Franklin in the summer. I'm starting it later today. I very much enjoyed the writing and mystery aspect of Mistress of the Art of Death, which I finished this morning. I don't want to wait to read further adventures of Adelia.
Two books came into my house this evening, both nonfiction:
What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew, by Daniel Pool
The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France, by Eric Jager.
It's been a number of years since I've read the Poole, but it's quite entertaining. Lots of interesting information in it.
