I managed to snag one of the Angelique books at Bookmooch. Oh my the cover. I will have to scan it and share it next week when I'm back at work. Raquel Welch would be proud to have breasts like that :D :D :D

And then today at the Persephone Bookshop (fantastic place, and the salespeople are lovely):
A London Child of the 1970s, by Molly Hughes
Saplings, by Noel Streatfeild (sp?)
Mariana, by Monica Dickens
Someone at a Distance, by Dorothy Whipple
The Victorian Chaise-Lounge, by Marghanita Lasky
The Making of a Marchioness, by Frances Hodgeson Burnett
The Young Pretenders, by Edith Henrietta Fowler

Help!![/quote]

I have to stay well away from the Persephone bookshop. Too much temptation!

I loved Mariana. Someone at a Distance is Dorothy Whipple's last and supposedly her best, but it's the only one (I think) I haven't read. My favourite DW is High Wages, which Persephone plan to republish.

I loved Mariana by Monica Dickens, and went on to read everything else she had ever written... It's a very uneven oeuvre alas, but...

That must be one of Noel Streatfield's rare & hard to find books for adults. I still lover her memoir series, a trilogy starting with A Vicarage Family.

Arrived today from PBS -- Symphony by Jude Morgan. I kind of broke the book ban last night, but I got a free Kindle book -- William James on pragmatism. (free web content turned into Kindle book!!)

Need a couple boxes? ;)

Mariana and The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley
and *blush* Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

Just read Sopkia's Secret and it was great. I like the Winter Sea title better. More poetic

Ok, I need your help. I have a 40% off coupon burning a hole in my pocket that must be used by Monday. I went to Borders this eve and nothing wowed me. Did see some Hisotrical non fiction that looked intriguing - the Weir book on Eleanor of Aquitane, and one about the daughters of King James II (Mary and Anne) but don't remember the title. Anyone have any comments on either of those, or, anyone have a suggestion for a HF or non fiction history that can be found at most Borders?

Is Ungrateful Daughters the book you're referring to? I thought it was excellent. If it's in Borders, I'll have to mosey over there myself!

Yes, thats it. I know very little about that time period, but have always been curious about these two queens (esp Mary, as I have conveted her doll house for years). Will I be totally lost if I only know about the the Restoration, but little about what followed?

You might be confused, I find all the Stuarts a bit confusing and I probably know more then most people. A family tree would be helpful to you.
