George Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood has died at age 88. He was the grandson of King George V and the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. His mother was George V's only daughter Mary, Princess Royal. Lord Harewood had varied interests from music (editor and author of opera books, director of music festivals and opera companies) to soccer (President of the English Football Association from 1963 to 1972, and of the Leeds United Football Club from 1983.) He was a prisoner of war during World War II.

Sad news but he's had a good life (apart from being imprisoned in Colditz and nearly being executed!).

I used to love visiting Harewood House with my daughter when she was small - we used to pay a yearly subscription and were then able to visit whenever we wanted, great for after school visits! It has a fantastic bird garden and adventure playground. It always felt a really safe environment. Beautiful house and gardens, too.
