Very sadly we bade farewell to our first family dog today and I have written a tribute to him on my blog. That's all I want to say.

Here's to seeing Taz on the other side of that rainbow! He will have plenty of company while he waits for his family to meet up with him again.

Very nicely said. I am so sorry for your loss, but you did the right thing.

Reading your blog brought a few tears to my eyes. It's heartbreaking when a beloved pet dies. But you obviously have plenty of great memories which will make you smile in the future.

It's one of the hardest choices we have to make, but it is the selfless one. It's so hard to let our dear old companions go. Sounds as if Taz had a wonderful life, full of all the things that give dogs joy.

ECM, I don't think I can even read the post, I know you will make me cry. But as we said on Twitter, I'm sincerely sorry for your loss. Siddy will find Taz and they can have some fun maybe. And now it's time to go scritch new puppy, Penelope.

Just been reading your blog and so sorry to hear about Taz. There are some lovely pictures and stories there, he sounds a real character (I liked the one about the pheasant - a poacher!) and he obviously had a lovely life and a lot of fun. I'm glad he was quite active til pretty near the last days, but you made the right decision.
