Short Story/Competitions

Postby stu1883 » Wed July 22nd, 2009, 6:21 am

Would anyone recommend entering short story competitons to practice/hone my craft?

The only problem I see is that by doing this it detracts time and effort away from my main WIP.......any views folks?

It cant hurt! But most of thetime you have to pay to enter. Then there are a lot that are looking for modern fiction, not historical stuff. I have never seen a HF short story in our American writer's magazines. Maybe there have been, but I never saw one.

And I dunno any contests for just HF.

If you just want to hone your craft, you can submit short stories for publication without having to enter contests. Solander accepts short story submissions (and pays for the ones it accepts).
