A 12 yr old should know better.

Over the recent 4th of July, I witnessed a parent holding a firework as it launched. It was one of the ones with a stick attached to it because you're supposed to stick it into the ground, not hold the stick. But he was doing the fireworks in the middle of the neighborhood street (ironically, for safety reasons, so it was away from the houses) where there was no soft ground to put it in. So he just held it. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt... but how stupid do you have to be? Not surprisingly, his children were also being irresponsible with the fireworks - stepping on lit smoke bombs and such. I really thought I might witness a Darwin Award that night.
Really, it's time to make them illegal except for professional displays.
It is illegal in PA - but it doesn't stop people, they just get fireworks from NJ. Trouble is, the police don't really enforce it.

Anyway, its illegal in NY as well, but if you live in the country ain't no one gonna find ya or report ya. when we used to set them off people would honk and scream as they drove by.

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Well, I'm going to go take personal responsibility for myself in the wilderness this next week, which is why I won't be around in the forum unless my smartphone reception is phenominal.

Being responsible, I am not going by myself, but with 3 others; I am traveling trails that I know almost as well as my local streets, and I have left word with multiple people as to where I am going and when they may expect me back.

And I am going to have a blast. Y'all have a good week.

And here's my llama laugh for the month:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv2fGPKTWgo

When we drive up I-81 in PA on our way to New England for Thanksgiving, you can see firework outlet stores and billboards for them from the highway! It's illegal yet all right for sale. I don't "get" it!

"Ground" fireworks - like sparklers and toy caps are legal in PA but not the bigger ones.

Although, googling it, it looks like there's some weird law about out-of-state residents being allowed to buy fireworks in PA, but not residents: http://billypenn.com/2015/07/02/pennsyl ... -of-state/

But I'd never heard of that before.

The cynic in me says there will be sabre rattling and lawyering up demanding better safety warnings.
