The only book I can think of is Arthur Phillips' The Egyptologist. How you react to that book might depend on whether you can digest some pretty unlikeable characters. It has quite a vicious bite to it, but the unreliable narrator angle is quite interesting as is some of the history leading up to WWI. If I remember correctly, Howard Carter has a minor part in it.
