New User Moderation

Post by boswellbaxter » Wed October 1st, 2008, 10:54 pm

Because of a deluge of spammers earlier today, some of whose posts linked to very offensive sites, we have enabled the option that allows us to approve new members before they post. Because the admins frequently check the site, we do not anticipate that anyone will have to wait for an unreasonably long time to be approved.

New members continue to be welcome, of course. If you are a new member awaiting moderation and have questions, please contact us at [email protected].

How many were there? I tried to look for banned members in the members list, but none are listed there.

There are tons of spammers on discussion forums. In the past couple of hours I banned 13 from the royalty forum I help moderate.

I wouldn't be surprised if we banned the same people!

I'm a super-mod on an automotive forum site. Unfortunately, the owner of the site doesn't see fit to upgrade the vBulletin software to the latest patches. grr...

So yeah, I'm familiar with spam users on forums...Sometimes up to 100 a day...I feel your pain.

You are very right in putting up an extra step in the registration. No one can gripe to you about it because it's essential to keeping the site running smoothly.

What happens when one is banned? Besides not being able to post?

They won't be able to even log on!
