I'll have to go look up the Matchmaker books too - I've read quite a few of the Hamish Macbeth books, and some of the standalones, but didn't realise she wrote others as well.

My first four novels - all contemporary thrillers - were set in Scotland. (and I've just written a sequel to the last, No Good Deed, which was until then a stand-alone)

Sorry, Manda, can't buy your books right now. Have run out of room. LOL I've got your Boudica series and know what a wonderful writer you are and that I would need (not want... need...) to own them. You'll have to go to the bottom of my list for now. :D ;)

As for the others, I thank you for your input. The Hamish Macbeth series looks interesting (and long!!!) and I wrote down Denise Mina's titles.

Just for the sake of anyone else who might encounter this thread, I am mainly looking for contemporary crime/mysteries, not historical, but am more open to historical mysteries than historical romance (gag).

Interest in HF: The first historical novel I read was Katherine by Anya Seton and this sparked off my interest in this genre.

How about Kate Ellis who mixes contemporary with history.

She could be an author of interest to Madeleine, as well. She's started a new detective series with a spooky theme as well as the contemporary/historical blend - the Joe Plantagenet series!

Thanks Vanessa - I have a few of her Wesley Peterson books.

I haven't read any Denise Mina but there was a recent TV adaptation of one of her books, called Field of Blood, on a few months ago which was excellent.
