Say what...?

Post by Rowan » Tue October 5th, 2010, 12:39 pm

Okay guys I need help here because my work computer has Borders blocked as a "shopping" site. *rolls eyes* I just got a notification of a new book by James Patterson: The Murder of King Tut: The Plot to Kill the Child King. It's billed as a non-fiction thriller. Is that the James Patterson or is that some other clever fellow who stole his name? :p I will certainly read it, but I'm just astonished because this is such a departure from his usual work.

Yes, it definitely is the same author from what I can see, but it's a co-write with Martin Dugard.

Rowan: I heard it sucked from someone who read it.

Well I decided not to bother with it after reading what she said, I guess you can just check out the reviews at Amazon and decide for yourself. If you get it and decide it's good maybe I'll change my mind.

Hmmm... you certainly put alot of pressure on a gal, SM. :) I'll have a look-see at what the people at Amazon have to say. But I said I'd read it... didn't say I'd buy it. ;) So if I manage to snag a copy at the library and don't like it, it won't be that big of a loss.

Non-fiction thriller about King Tut? Now I'm not 100% sure on this but don't we know far too little about him for anyone to write a "thriller" about him that's not fiction?

I love learning but I don't think I've ever considered any non-fiction to be thrilling.

This is the kind of hubris that folks fall into when they don't approach history with enough humility. Everything we think we know about ancient history is subject to change the next time someone finds a scroll, or a stone inscription, or a new artifact.
