Conquistadors

Post by Volgadon » Thu December 25th, 2008, 5:05 pm

I have vague memories of being at my grandparents house reading an American anthology from the mid 60s of stories for YA. One of the stories was about conquistadors trying to cross a river in North America. There was an old conquistador and a new horse or something of the sort. Does this ring any bells?

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

I have a book on my shelf I picked up used somewhere that was of that general theme -- I have only flipped through it, never got around to reading. I'll go look for it. I think the title was something like 'children of the sun' but a search isn't bringing up anything by that title that seems to fit.
When I got it, I thought it was about the Incas, and as a llama owner, I tend to collect info on that subject. Was quite disappointed to discover it took place in NORTH America.

The one I'm remembering was quite short and episodic.
