Hello from Hampshire, England

Post by J.D. Oswald » Mon May 14th, 2012, 8:13 pm

Hello, I'm really pleased to have come across this forum. I'm a keen reader and (part-time) writer and live in (old!) Hampshire in the south of England.

I've recently published an historical novel about art, families and slavery in eighteenth century London and Devon, based on my research into 2 historical characters: a miniature portrait artist and a freed slave.

I'm hoping to attend the Historical Novel Society Conference in London in September.

J.D.

Hi J.D. Your premise sounds interesting. Do you read mostly 18th-century too?

Hi JD and welcome from another "southerner", I've been through Hampshire quite a few times and love the New Forest. Good luck with your book.

Hi J.D.

Does the abolition of slavery under the impetus of Wilberforce feature in your novel? I saw the movie Amazing Grace - thought it was very good, but I'm not au fait with the period.

Hope your stay with the HFO is a happy one!

Hello Wendy
I live in Winchester, so not too far away from Southampton. It's a small world!
