Greetings,

I am a military physician who recently returned from deployment in Iraq with my first completed manuscript, a historical fiction thriller entitled The Life of a Colonial Fugitive. My novel is set in the American Revolution and it explores the transformation of a young soldier, Jonathan Lee, who is falsely accused of a war crime and forced to flee his The Colonies. Jonathan joins a mercenary regiment and deploys to Siam, a war-ravaged land that is suffering under the iron fist of an insane monarch. My novel is historically accurate and it was extensively researched for two years, including a fact-finding trip to Thailand and over thirty references. The Life of a Colonial Fugitive is available on both Kindle and Nook.

I have a lot of disparate interests. I'm into just about anything historical, from any period. As a physician, I also perpetually have my face stuck in medical journals and contemporary science mags. My undergrad degree was in political science and I try to stay up-to-date with world politics, mostly by reading The Economist every week. I'm also a historical simulations junkie and I can't stop playing Europa Universalis 3 no matter how hard I try (big fan of Civilization too)! How about yourself? Thanks for the welcome, now back to work :)

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

Hi Leonardo! Now that the writing is done, comes another form of research: what do HF readers like, and why do they like it? There are as many answers as there are readers, but joining the conversation with other readers like yourself, on books other than your own, can be immensely enlightening.

Welcome Leonardo! Lots of nice folks here, I'm sure you'll find people with similar interests and join in the conversation. I'm an Economist geek, as well. My husband and I produce a weekly radio show for the visually impaired and read the main articles. Also a Civilization fan. Haven't played in a few weeks because it's so addicting. Best of luck with your book.

You and your husband have a very important, and very cool, career. Yeah, I only let myself play Civ and Europa on the weekends b/c otherwise I get nothing done!
