Dymocks on Collins St (321 Collins St specifically) have a selection of books one doesn't usually find in other bookshops.
Also Readers Feast (cnr of Bourke & Swanston Sts) have an excellent selection of NF Historical as well as a lot of "imports" whihc don't make it to the regular bookshops here either.

Once SLOC has finished yelling at his useless football team on the TV, I'll ask him about second-hand shops - he wrks in the city & knows them all

He's finished shouting at the game (his team lost :( )

He recommends Kill City at 119 Swanston St (between Collins & Bourke Sts).

Also City Basement Books 342 Flinders St website here

And there are others, but they're more out of the central city area.

Oh dear, he wouldn't be too happy now then. ;)

Thank you both heaps for the help! I can already see the look on my partners face when he'll realise we've travelled from the NT to buy books! :p Well not the only reason but still! *lol*

The only problem you'll have here is selecting which of hundreds of good books to read.

A lovely problem . . .

I've decided that the best way to get my husband to build bookshelves is to just keep buying them and when he gets sick of stacks of them he'll start building. ;)

We're trying having therapy outside of the "classroom" and if that works I may get my library after all.

A fellow southern antipodean welcome

Post by Greg » Fri April 1st, 2011, 2:46 am

Hi, great to see a fellow antipodean here! After Dunnett too many other books look, well inadequate. I can recommend the Patricia Finney series set during Elizabeth’s reign (Firedrakes Eye). I found them well and truly up to par in plot, detail and complexity. From Susan Higginbottom's blog I get the impression she is also a stickler for an accurately portrayed story with a quality storyline.

On your Kindle! (Yikes! I'm becoming a Kindle advocate. Forget I said that.) By the way, Game of Thrones is one of my all-time favorite books. Love it!
