Hi everyone, I've just joined the site and I'm really excited about being here. I live in Sydney Australia (good to see there are some other Aussies on here too!) and I'm currently on maternity leave. In real life I'm usually a history teacher and I'm filling in my hours by writing a novel, historical fiction. So like I said, I'm really glad to be on here getting to know you all and discussing some books and topics. I noticed that Nerd ( :) ) posted a quick reading list so I thought I might do the same. Mine isn't as extensive as his, but lately I've finished

The Historian, Elizabeth Kostova

People of the Book, Geraldine Brooks

Giovanni and Lusanna - Love and Marriage in Renaissance Florence - Gene Brucker (non fiction)

Fire in the City Savonarola and the struggle for the soul of Renaissance Florence (non fiction) - Lauro Martines

The last two are for the novel I'm writing, as it is set in late 15th century Italy/Europe.
Anyway, hope to get to know you all soon.

KV Writes ;)

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Hi KV, congrats on the baby and welcome. I'm from Perth originally (now live Scotland) and went through Sydney a few times - absolutely beautiful city. One of my close friends is the main archaeologist who digs up The Rocks and all that early colonial era stuff, plus lots of digs in the Blue Mountains and surrounds. Have fun here and good luck with the writing. :)
