- Right now I'm mostly reading Elizabeth Gaskell and Jane Austen, so fiction from history rather than historical fiction.
- I'm also reading a pretty cool book called "The Inner Game of Tennis." Oddly enough, I think some of the principles in there might apply to writing.
- I love biography, perhaps more than fiction. Autobiographies can be even more interesting.
- My favorite fiction author may be P.G. Wodehouse.
- I work full time as a physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
- I haven't written a book. That is, I just finished the first draft of my first novel, but I'm giving it a brake before writing a second draft. This whole editing idea is intimidating.
- I'm not here to promote a book. But I still have an ulterior motive. I hope to find authors willing to contribute short stories or short biographical pieces for a new magazine.

In the interest of full disclosure I'll tell you why I don't quite belong here. This seems like a great spot. I hope you'll take me anyway . . .

- Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
- Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
- Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
- Location: California Bay Area
Let me be the first to welcome you, Doug. As a denizen of a California town where there are more physicists than schoolteachers (and I'm sure you know which one!) I can assure you that your profession spawns many an HF fan.
This place is also unparalleled for research into reader likes and dislikes. A treasure trove of information available nowhere else. Enjoy!
