The Stolen One

Post by Suzanne Crowley » Sat April 11th, 2009, 1:09 am

Hello everyone,

I've posted a couple of times but haven't formally introduced myself. My second novel, "The Stolen One" by HarperTeen debuts July 6th. It's an Elizabethan set YA novel with intrigue, romance (lots of romance, the main character has 3 love interests), and lots of period detail. From the flap copy:
Kat's identity is a secret, even from her. All she has ever known are Grace and Anna and their small village. Kat wants more-more than hours spent embroidering finery for wealthy ladies and more than Christian, the gentle young farmer courting her.
But there are wolves outside, Grace warns. Waiting, with their eyes glowing in the dark . . . and Grace has given Kat safety and a home when no one else would.
Then a stranger appears in their cottage bringing the mystery of Kat's birth with her. In one night, Kat's destiny finds her. She will leave. She will journey to London, and her skill with the needle will attract the notice of the magnificant Queen Elizabeth-and of the wolves of the court. She will discover what Grace would never tell her.
Everything will unravel.

Hi Suzanne! Your Stolen One sounds very intriguing - the only YA set in a Tudor era I've ever read was The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope which is a bit different, of course. Yours may have to be the second!

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Hi Suzanne,

Welcome! What age do you recommend your books for? My daughter is interested in history, but is only 11. I am always looking for new books for her and yours sound quite interesting.

Hi Andrea,

The Stolen One is a little old for her. It's for age 14 and up. My first book, The Very Ordered Existence of Merilee Marvelous is for age 10 and up. Obviously, it's not a historical but she might like it. It's about a girl with Asperger's syndrome who is obsessed with dragons. She lives in a west Texas town where mysterious lights appear at night. You can check it out on my website at http://www.suzannecrowley.com It's won a lot of awards and is currently on two state reading lists.
