Saw Defiance this afternoon. The movie was very entertaining with a requisite amount of WWII action, but not a lot of gloomy tearjerking scenes between the Jewish community hiding out in forest camps. They all clearly suffered from lack of sufficient food supplies, cold, disease and were in constant danger and on the run. How would you live through that? But the brotherly quips traded at times between Daniel Craig's and Liev Schreiber's Bielski characters were well timed and amusing.

I'll surf around now and find the real history about the Bielski's herioc actions. We all know that movies based on 'real stories' are so factual!

I snuck into Rachel Getting Married on the way out as it was beginning and ended up watching the entire movie. I wanted to watch Anne Hathaway since she's nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Kim. A few parts were really intense, but other scenes were so boring. Not a great movie overall.

Yeah, sometimes I indulge in a 'double feature' on a Saturday or Sunday if a movie I already want to see comes on right after the one I just left. I think the movie theatres should revive the good old fashioned double feature, don't you?

Hey, at least I spent $10.25 for a small popcorn and soda in addition to the $7 admission price!

Just watched The Duchess. Great costumes and scenery, but I was bored by the predictable drama. Reading up a bit on her, I wish the movie focused more on her political views and activities. It was shown somewhat, but not near enough.

"Micki & Maude". I loved this movie as a kid, used to watch it all the time when it would play on regular TV. Back then it didn't bother me as much that Dudley Moore's character was committing bigamy, but now I know it's very wrong but it's still a funny movie.

We also saw Defiance this pm, liked it very much. Apparently there is some criticism of the film; by Polish for one, because the film did not include Polish resistance fighters (but the point of the film was that Jews did fight, and many survived). Also the author of the book its based on was surprised by all the battle scenes, said they were added in for more action; the group was just trying to survive, rather than trying to fight (tho obviously there had to be some battles)

I think the most shocking scene to me was when they captured a German soldier. I was horrified, but at the same time on the side of the mob, which makes me feel horribly inhuman.

Ash - I hadn't heard about Defiance, so I went and found a trailer. I will have to look out for that movie (isn't out here until the end of Feb), it looks very good.

Maybe I will have to download it and The Boy in the Stripped PJs for a double feature!
