Watched (again!) both Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources (after the books by Marcel Pagnol). Superb cinema starring Gerard Depardieu, Daniel Auteuil, Emmanuelle Beart and the late Yves Montand.

The final twist is one of the best ever in a film/book!

Inkheart - another vote for a film better than the book. I've never seen the apeal of Paul Bettany before but as Dustfinger - cor! I've got him marked down to play Hugh Bigod if they ever film my WIP!

Re-watched "Reap The Wild Wind", a 1942 Cecil B. DeMille classic about shipwreckers off the Carolina Keys in the nineteenth century and starring a young John Wayne and Paulette Goddard. I saw this as a kid and was greatly impressed at the time- it was delightfully scary and dramatic. Suffice to say that time has not been kind, though I can still see why I was taken with it all those years ago :)

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

I might check out the film, then. I got through the book a couple years ago when I was checking out what was 'hot' in YA, and didn't like it at all.

"Angels & Demons" I liked it, though it had many changes from the book.

yep, the review in my paper said there were lots of changes, I'm a bit disappointed they've taken out Langdon's makeshift parachute jump though, I was quite looking forward to seeing that on film :p

Saw Wolverine last night, good popcorn movie - anything was better than the Eurovision Song contest - is that shown in the US?
