You left out the mumbling, running words together and barely audible whispering. I often worry I am becoming hard of hearing; then I watch an oldie on Turner Classics and understand each word -- even when Cageny and O'Brien are firing them faster than a machine gun.
Also, when I close my eyes, the speech of many contemporary actors sounds flat.
Oh I hear that! I have a hard time going to the movies cause I do have slight hearing loss in one ear and I can't understand the speech sometimes! I'm always waiting for a movie to come on DVD so I can finally understand what I missed at the theatre! Thank the technical gods for Closed Captioning!

Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

I hate that! We watched an American indie film a couple of months ago had to turn the subtitles on. Even some TV shot in a "reality" style is hard to follow.

Quiet Sunday afternoon so I decided to watch "Queen Margot" since I am reading "The Confessions of Catherine de Medici" and I am up to Margot's marriage to Henri of Navarre. We've had the film (a VHS tape!) for years. The film was released in the US by Miramax and my husband worked for them and we got tapes (and later CDs) of most of their films. My husband had seen the film at a screening and did not want to watch in again so it has been languishing on the shelf since 1994 or 1995. I would not have known who all the characters were if I were not reading "The Confessions of Catherine de Medici!" I know the film is based on the Dumas' novel and takes historical liberties, but it was interesting to see the characters I am currently reading about.
