Saw The Princess and the Frog last night, the latest Disney animation. Enjoyed it quite a bit, although the funniest part was from one of the little girls in the audience. The bad guy who was "voodooed" to look like the hero "marries" Tiani's best friend. Cue upset 5-yo in the audience - "Mummy, it's wrong! He married the wrong person, he can't marry the frog girl now!" :D Obviously hasn't been read enough fairy tales to know that the "happily ever after" always happens... ;)
"Logic, my dear Zoe, merely enables one to be wrong with authority." The Doctor, Wheel in Space

Watched the rest of Time Traveller's Wife - v good movie - unusual plot but traditional weepie in many ways - 2 Kleenexes worth at least. Now I'll have to try to read the book again...

54.

Boogie Nights it wasn't but it was fun to watch and had some good performances, especially from Mike Myers.

Plus, Ryan Philippe spent much of the movie minus his shirt.

:D

I've seen it, but can't remember much about it - though I do recall RP with his shirt off. ;) It's certainly better than the abysmal Last Days of Disco.

As someone who remembers the disco era all too well (still got my sequined boob tube somewhere...), the movie that captured it best for me was Summer of Sam.

Two versions of A Christmas Carol.

The 1938 version was classic early MGM ridiculousness, but overall a lot of fun to watch. I loved their Bob Cratchit.

The 1951 with Alistair Sim was really good. I can see why it's considered the quintessential adaptation. I'm going to have to actually read the book now to see if some of those very touching bits were in the story and just didn't make it into the other film versions.

Now when I get my hands on the new Disney version with Jim Carrey, I'll have seen them all.

Have you seen the early 70's version with (I think) George C Scott? Scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid. The late 90's Patrick Stewart version is also worth a look.
