Masterpiece 50th Anniversary

Post by princess garnet » Fri October 16th, 2020, 2:15 am

It started with "The First Churchills" in 1971 with Alistair Cooke in the host's chair. (He was succeeded by Russell Baker) Many UK and US acting greats appeared in productions in the longest prime time drama series.
Next year "Masterpiece" (formerly "Masterpiece Theater" to long time viewers) will celebrate its 50th anniversary on PBS. Here's a look at the upcoming shows in 2021:

To our UK members, you'll likely see (or already seen) these titles soon!

Yes most ofthose have been shown here. "Elizabeth is Missing" was excellent, "Us" and "All Creatures...." have both just finished and were very watchable, "Miss Scarlet and the Duke" is good fun, and "Grantchester" seems to have recovered from the loss of James Norton! You have some good Tv coming up!

Interview with Nancy West, author of the new book Masterpiece, a history of the show and its influence:

I read and own a copy of the book. It's not a coffee table, commemorative type book. The accompanying photo plates are mostly promo photos or stills from select series over the years.
