Jane Austen's unfinished novel Sanditon will be adapted for TV:

Filming will start next year.

I read and own this Penguin Classics edition (click hypertext link to view) compiling Austen's 3 short and/or unfinished novels.

Ahead of the show's upcoming US broadcast, here's a primer to the characters:

It's a 2 hour premiere starting Sunday, Jan. 12th.

The companion book The World of Sanditon by Sara Sheridan was a good overview about the series.

The series was enjoyable, Anne Reid steals it in the same way that Maggie Smith stole all her scenes in Downton. Not sure if there'll be a second series though.

Last Sunday (1/12) was the 2 hour premiere (combining Episodes 1 & 2) here in the US!

For your reading pleasure, an interview with composer Ruth Barrett:

The show's soundtrack is available in digital format only. Likewise for "Victoria" seasons 2-3 soundtrack.

Where was that scene filmed or that place looks familiar? A handy guide to the filming locations for Sanditon:

Enjoy!

I begin to wonder if UK TV channels will continue to do these deals with Masterpiece Theatre by which Masterpiece cough up a percentage of the production costs to get exclusive distribution rights in the US. It now seems that most UK content which will eventually also include that from Channel 4 will end up on Britbox and no longer feature on Netflix or Amazon Prime so I am not sure that the value of the previous Masterpiece deals will continue. I don't know, it just seems to me that there must be questions asked about these distribution deals (not just with Masterpiece).

Throughout the series, Jane Austen references have appeared on the set design. An interview with production designer Grant Montgomery:

Enjoy!

Almost done! Episode 6 broadcasted here in the US last night. (The premiere was a double header so it's a slight numbering sequence from the UK broadcast)

The finale was on Sunday, and it was quite an ending! Andrew Davies wanted the ending to be what it was. Since there won't be a season 2, here's what three of the cast said about their roles:

I enjoyed watching the adaptation of Sanditon but "once is enough" for me. I did find the digital soundtrack album of the show online so I can listen to that anytime!
