Versailles (tv series)

Post by Ludmilla » Mon October 2nd, 2017, 5:50 pm

Is anyone watching Versailles? I started watching season 1 (now available on Netflix) and am enjoying it quite a bit.

I never got around to watching this. It was hugely disliked by most of the people I know. I can handle historical inaccuracies more than I can handle bad acting. The main reason I hated the White Queen, the Tudors and Pillars of the Earth (couldn't get past the first episode of that one) was the acting and because I didn't find the characters believable and the drama created didn't justify the historical inaccuracies unlike the Cate Blanchett Elizabeth films which were very good, if not completely accurate. The acting was excellent.

I enjoyed Versailles. I've only watched S1, though, and have S2 recorded. Not a clue how accurate it is, probably not a lot! It's quite entertaining.

We watched seasons 1 and 2 of Versailles when they were on TV, I found it enjoyable in a trashy, over-the-top Tudors sort of way.

It's more 'loosely based' on history most of the time, but in the UK each episode was then followed up by a 10-minute review of the episode by a couple of historians (and sometimes guests), who would chat about one of the themes and how historically accurate it was, what real event it was based on, etc.
