OMG I've just looked him up and I agree, he's totally unrecognisable as Ossie - a tribute to him and the hair and make up people. probably just as well he won't be recognised off screen as Ossie is so vile, but he's like that in the books. In the original he was played by Christopher Biggins :o

An amazing transformation! It looks like the actor does a lot of character acting.

I think Christopher Biggins can look a little creepy anyway!! :? :)

Yes, I did see a bit of the original series with him, and he was still recognisable as Biggins! Scary....although I read a nice story that said he stayed friends with the author afterwards.

I've really enjoyed this series - pure escapism for a Sunday night! ;)

I've read that the next series will go up to the end of Book 7 (yay) and then series 5 will probably be the last one, covering the last 5 books, which sounds a lot so I wonder if they'll have more episodes for that one? there's a big gap after book 7 - 10 years - and I recently read book 8 which wasn't as involving as the earlier books, as it concentrates more on the children, who are now quite grown up.

To complement Madeleine's post, here's a blog post from "Telly Visions" with a blurb from Aidan Turner:

I love Poldark and have thoroughly enjoyed watching the latest series. I think it should have six series and I think that would easily cover all the books.

There's a big gap both timewise and writing-wise between the first 7 books and the next five, which was why the BBC only filmed the first 7 books back in the 70s, as the others hadn't been written yet. The later books are more about the children; I've just read book 8 and it was nowhere near as involving as the earlier books, so I think this might be why they want to condense the later books into one series. It does sound a bit rushed, maybe it'll be a longer series? Series 4 should be a belter though, as book 7 is one of the best in the series, be prepared for shocks though ;) :o
