Wolf Hall
Wolf Hall
I watched Wolf Hall last night and wondered if anyone was talking about it on here.
Some of my stories are set in the 1540s, so I loved the settings, locations and costumes as well as the acting. So interesting to see people talking by firelight, watching how the light flickers and how dim candlelight really is compared to what we have today. I tried counting how many candles were held on the three tiered candlestands and never got a total number! Must go back and freeze frame the video. Bare floorboards, and the noise every footstep makes. Tables covered in Turkey carpets. Metal drinking goblets. Lovely details.
Initially I wasn't impressed by Rylance, but he grew on me. Damien Lewis threatens to make the best Henry I've seen yet, and that includes Robert Shaw and Keith Michell's interpretations.

I dont remember seeing the trailer.
I have no intention of watching the mini series. I'm sorta done with Tudor stuff. I think I got tired of it after TOBG. Thats the only thing that was published and I had my fill.

Just one more episode of WH to go here - it's way different from TOBG and The Tudors thank goodness, although The Tudors was fun in a weird, guilty pleasure way - very subtle and beautifully nuanced, maybe a bit slow for some, and it does look gorgeous (if a little dark!).
I wasn't sure about MR either at first, although I think Anton Lesser, who plays Thomas More, pretty much matches him in their scenes together. And I agree with Jen about Damien Lewis - I vaguely remember the Keith Michell version and he's always been my definitive Henry, but DL comes a pretty close second. And Claire Foy is excellent as Anne B.
