BBC Series on Medieval and Tudor Queens

Postby robinbird79 » Fri March 2nd, 2012, 4:48 pm

I came across a description of a 3 part series on the BBC titled "She Wolves, England's Early Queens." The first episode looks like it will be about Matilda and Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Anyone know if there will be a way I can watch these here in the States? Online or something?

Thanks!

I can't offer very much hope at the moment because the BBC is restricted by the GATT convention on making its programmes available offshore. They also only keep their programmes online for a very short period. I think that is because they pay considerably less for the copyright than other channels. They are no longer available on the BBC catch-up service (BBC iPlayer) and your IP address gives away your location as outside the UK so you wouldn't get away with it. There are ways round it but that is no use now because they are not available at the moment.

These programmes were a BBC4 production last year which I forgot to record. If you have access to one of the BBC's international channels, it will probably come up at some time. If I notice it is being reshown on the BBC I will record it and send you a copy (but it will be in MPEG1 format as it is the smallest so you would have to watch it on your computer rather than via a DVD player), and I can probably manage to send it to you online, if that helps. BBC4 quite frequently re-run these programmes, but, unfortunately, I have to notice that they are reshowing it which is a bit of a problem because I so rarely watch TV nowadays.

The BBC sometimes release these programmes on DVD but they can take quite a while about it and I only find out by watching Amazon or by seeing it in the library.

Someone else might have recorded it already or have a better idea.

I don't know if it was on before but the website seems to be showing it as a new programme that starts this Wednesday:

I know there are ways of ripping it from the iplayer while it's available in the UK.

Oh I would love to see it. Why don't networks buy these programs. I am sick to death of channels which have bizarre content...ie 'Toddlers and Tiara's'...'Big fat gyspy whatevers' 'The kadashians are still shopping! :p *rolls eyes* Hence I buy a lot of DVD's from Amazon U.K.

If there is a TV programme I know I want to keep, I just record it straight onto the computer and save it as an MPG file which I can play on any computer.

I will do this for you if you want.

Downloads from iPlayer expire after a limited period of time so I don't use that method for ones I want to keep.
