turkish hf- a little help?

Post by Kveto from Prague » Sat January 17th, 2009, 11:52 pm

read a book 10-15 years ago. the protagonist was a young turkish girl. all i remember was that it was set some time after the fall of constantinople but it also involved some type of minor time travelling to get in some other eras. i didnt find it particularly compeling (which is why i cant remember the name).

that ring any bells? just trying to remember the title.

thnx,
keny

Kenny,
Sorry I can't help you with this particular book, but if you like that particular time period I have a couple of other books for you. One is by Jill Paton Walsh called THE EMPEROR'S WINDING SHEET, another is by Lawrence Schoonover THE GENTLE INFIDEL. Finally, there's another really good Gillian Bradshaw (sometimes she knocks it out of the park, and this is one such time) ALCHEMY OF FIRE.
I'm sure I could come up with some others if you like, and I'm sorry I couldn't pull the one you asked about, but the three I listed are all good stuff.

Geesh, just checked Amazon, Book Depository and BookFinder - they have the book, none of them under $25!
Even the one listing on ebay is a 'buy it now', at $26

I second the Walsh book, really very good (like the rest of her work)

Interest in HF: I can't answer this in 100 characters. Sorry.
Favourite HF book: Checkmate, the final novel in the Lymond series
Preferred HF: Literary novels. Late medieval and Renaissance.

Keny, could it be L. Sprague de Camp's Lest Darkness Fall? I haven't read it, but it does involve time-travel to various eras and is set largely in Constantinople.
Browse over 5000 historical novel listings (probably well over 5000 by now, but I haven't re-counted lately) and over 700 reviews at www.HistoricalNovels.info

hi Margaret,

No that wasnt it, thanks. its been so long and i dont rember much about it. the author was female and i had a lot of different culture from asia minor interacting (armenians, circassians, arabs, turks, etc.) it mustve been really obscure. its no big deal cause ill never read it again. :-)
