Interesting comments from everyone. I thought the "doves" looked like the flying sequence in ET too, and the industrial bit also really reminded me of the Mordor scenes in LOTR. However I have to admit that I thought the country scenes seemed, to me at least, to border on looking like a Monty Python sketch. I agree about the music choices, Arctic Monkeys were bleugh, and Macca was slightly cringeworthy, although Hey Jude is always a good singalong. I also agree it should have finished with the lighting of the flame and cauldron.
A lot of people here have mixed feelings about the NHS scenes - it was all a bit bizarre and Mary Poppins-y, although I thought it had a certain cutesiness about it, but why include puppets of Voldemort (I thought it was a witch at first) and that hideous giant baby - I know they had lots of other things from children's literature like Cruella de Vil etc, but that should have been a separate tribute section. It did all seem a bit of a mish-mash.
I think the closing ceremony might be more of a traditional concert.
