Should spoilers be allowed here before the events are aired in most locations or should we refrain until the day after?

I loved most of the opening ceremonies. My favorite part was the forging of the ring and my kids loved seeing other kids singing in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and of course London. I lovelovelove the get -togetherness of it all. Thanks UK for making it fun.
Yes, Sir Paul is definitely a British icon, but sadly, age has caught up with that once angelic voice. There was a noticeable cock-up at the start of Hey Jude as well- Paul was well out of sync with everyone else for a bit there.
I agree, his voice has now gone (and I am pretty sure Danny Boyle was aware of that beforehand) but that was not the point of including him in the ceremony or why he closed the show which should be clear from the whole theme of the event.

Hey Jude was also the perfect song to conclude with and no-one else could have sung it or got the audience to sing along with it.

I would use a spoilers tag when you are doing that.

One cool thing was the fact that each country's team got to carry in one of the copper "petals" that made up the Olympic Cauldron (204 in total, one for each country), and will also be given one to take back to their home country after the Olympics finish.

I was taken with the grassy mound representing a Celtic Iron Age hill fort too. A nice reference to the past.

I always think that for events like this, the participants and the dignitaries involved must need to be blessed with cast-iron bladders :)

Is McCartney's voice really gone or was he just very choked up about the honor and the spectacle of it all? I'm not a huge fan or anything, but I think that's possibly part of it.

As you I'm not really a fan, but my money is on the age factor and not the honor factor. I mean he has done numerous concerts that I assume have a lot of meaning. I can't imagine the olympics is the one that would get him choked up.

I could be wrong however.

That is cool that the copper petals go back to the Nations. While the lighting of the torch wasn't so cool, what its made outta was super neat. :)

WTG USA, after 2 games with no diving medals we won the silver in Women's Synchronised 3m Springboard. The Chinese won, again, what a shock, not.
