Is this Amazon Email for real?

Post by Divia » Tue May 17th, 2011, 9:41 pm

Did anyone else get this? I'm wondering if its real or not. I mean I do know that if you become friends with some merchants you can get free stuff or enter to win.

I haven't received one. I would suggest contacting Amazon first to see if it is legit on their end. You might also post at the Top reviewers forum and see if anyone knows anything. If you know how to look at the email properties (showing the *path*) paste it here and I can look up the IP address of the sender and see if it came from Amazon. I wouldn't go clicking on links in the email until you are sure.

I got one of those emails, also. But since I'm not on Facebook I just disregarded it.

It does sound rather spammy. I'd contact Amazon first before disclosing -anything.-

Did you go to Facebook by clicking on the link in the email, or by going to your Facebook account independently and finding the offer? If the latter, I'd say it's legit. If you clicked on the link, I would not do anything further and run a scan on your computer immediately. Some of these scammers set up pages that look almost indistinguishable form the real thing, and there have been some big thefts of email addresses recently. I got an email purporting to be from PayPal a few weeks ago, which wanted me to click on a link. The format of the email looked very much like a PayPal email, but I was suspicious, so I went to PayPal independently and searched - turns out it was a scam. If I had clicked on the link and given them the information they wanted, they could probably have hacked my PayPal account.

Then it's probably for real.
