Right now.. the worst thing is waiting for the phone to ring.

My grandmother is dying, but dying by inches. She could pass in the next hour, or in a few days time.

I can do nothing. Not for my family, or for myself. This is happening 4000 miles away in England, and I'm the only one of the grandchildren who has not been able to go and see her.

I can't change that. I made this choice to move to the states, and I don't regret it. I've done what I can to say goodbye, and even if I was there I'd be left watching - waiting.

It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop. Waiting for the call that will bring pain and yet relief at the same time.

So so sorry to hear about kitty LCW. It is never easy, even when you know they're better off not suffering. I've had three really tough losses in less than five years and it just gets harder and harder each time, and so hard to make the judgment when it's better just to let go.

Terri, I feel your pain I was in a very similar situation with my mother about ten years ago. We were lucky that she was in a state where she could make her own decision.

Sorry to hear that, Terri. We were in the same situation with my mother-in-law in 2007. I know it's a difficult time.

LCW and Terrie, I feel for you both.

EC, dont you just hate it when they try and say it is your end? Worked fine before they tinkered with it!

LH, I used to work with Autistic children, that was stressful enough. If you need someone to talk to, I am here. I may even be able to come up wth something you have not tried!

Sorry about your cat, Lydia. Lost our 14-year-old cat last year. Their absence sure leaves a hole in your house, doesn't it?

LoveHistory: Have you read any of Temple Grandin's books? She has (high-functioning) Kanner's syndrome autism, and she really helped me understand my autistic nephew.

EC: getting software people who don't understand what they are doing is a serious trial. Hope you get out from under the built-up workload quickly.

Sorry about your cat Lydia. He was a beauty.

Terri, I hope that when the call comes, you will feel the relief that you require, even whilst you still grieve for a loved one. My grandparents are well enough within themselves but they are old (88 and 99), and they live a long way away.
Every time I have seen them in the last 20 years it has been goodbye but it doesnt stop that feeling that somehow we have let them down, or not been there. (((Terri)))

EC, don't you hate that now every one wants to push it back to the consumer! There's not a lot of customer service any more.

Lovehistory, here's hoping that you get through soon to your specialist and get the assistance that you need!
