Sorry about the headaches and the deadlines, Chatterbox. And your cold Nona.

My kindergartner got suspended last week. Beats the oldest's record of suspension in third grade. Life does not go the way I planned. It seems like an impossible situation. He needs to be in school, but his impulse control is zero and his frustration is through the roof. If we medicate to mellow him out we risk him not being able to improve his speech. It's the lack of speech that causes the frustration in the first place. He really loves school. If we go to shorter days, he loses socialization. And there's always the chance that he's just testing the staff. Or he could be on the verge of getting sick. Too many unanswered questions.

The shorter of the days sounds like the best alternative. What about socialization outside of school without being in an academic setting?

I'm cold and its cold and I'm too damn lazy to turn the heat on. Its not Nov. yet. So I freeze. I also hit my thumb twice with a hammer while roofing. Its purple now and I had to let out some blood. Its not as bad as it could be, but we'll see how it looks tomorrow.

There isn't much chance for socialization outside of school. Don't want to risk someone else's child getting hurt.

We don't take all the boys anywhere but to my parents' house. Going any public place (or even to friends houses) would be chaos. Only the people who already know them and/or have a lot of experience with autism are remotely prepared for the outbursts. My sisters are getting better about all of it, but are still hesitant with regard to their own kids' safety.

Autism can be very isolating. The boys actually have a better social life than we parents do.

Ouch to the thumb! That's why I try to avoid hammers.

We've just knocked through a wall into the roof cavity in our daughter's bedroom to put in an ensuite. It looks very nice........ unfortunately it leaked into the downstairs ensuite bathroom! Looks like the ceiling will have to come down. :( What a pain!

my head cold has now moved into my nasal passage and my chest. I sound horrible, look worse and am worried about missing three going to be four days of work.

Our IT dept took down our automation system (although the public online catalog is still available) over the weekend which leaves us next to nothing for providing patron service at the reference desk. It won't be back up until later this week. Sigh...

Kindergartner came home early again today. We may have isolated the reason for the difficulties though so that part is good.

I'm exhausted and my head is spinning off and on. I can't afford to get sick so that better not be what's wrong. Was going to watch a bit of a movie with my husband, but I think as soon as the kids are down for the night I'll go to bed.

I just found out a dear friend was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
I lost another dear friend to that November of last year.
Both are about my age. Really makes you think.

So sorry to learn of that, MLE. I had an aunt who died of that a few years ago. It's very upsetting for all concerned. She'd had breast cancer about 30 years previously and so they did a test to see if it was related, but it wasn't - it was just the fact that she smoked like a chimney.
