Officers Down

Post by Misfit » Sun November 29th, 2009, 6:22 pm

I just heard this a short while on the radio on the way home. I can't stop crying. We'd just gotten through the assasination of a Seattle Police Officer on Halloween and now this has just happened.
PARKLAND, Wash. - Four police officers were shot and killed in a Sunday morning ambush at a Parkland-area coffee shop, officials said.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene after receiving a report that multiple officers were shot and killed in the ambush at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, according to reports from the scene.

Pierce County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ed Troyer called the ambush "a targeted attack."

KOMO News Radio reported from the scene that a lone gunman burst into the coffee shop, shot the four officers as they were working on their computers, then fled the scene.
Details still very sketchy, not sure what branch of police the officers were. Could be city, State Patrol, County Sheriff or the military (right by McChord AFB). Suspect still at large.

That's horrifying, Misfit. I'm so sorry for their families. It seems as though the downturn in the economy is leading to more violence - family massacres, shootings like this...

I saw this and I thought "Gee, just what our state needs, more murdered cops, not!". What is up with people that they're targeting our police officers!

I just can't imagine what kind of mind would go and shoot them in cold blood - we know it can happen that officers are killed/wounded in the heat of things but this person clearly targeted them. They were in full uniform, laptops open getting ready to start their shift, their patrol cars parked outside and the customers and employees in the coffee shop at the time were not fired upon. I understand they are quite shaken up, I would be.

It's sounding like some of the news people are getting a bit carried away and showing things they should not be showing. Let alone there is still a gunman running around lose.

It was three male officers and one female that was shot from the City of Lakewood.

This kind of thing makes no sense to me. It's just horrible.

Agreed. There seems to be a lot more random shootings lately. Yikes.

This is dreadfully, dreadfully shocking and sad. My thoughts go out to those men and their families.
