University of Chicago students are publishing 'Twitterature', in which the greatest works of literature are reduced to twitterspeak no longer than 140 characters. Here's a few:
1. Clever girl thinks new fellow in town is way too pleased with himself, so turns against him. Then discovers he is rich, so marries him.
2. Naive daughter of chronically lazy man impregnated by someone who might be a distant cousin but probably isn't. Misery follows.
3. Money doesn't make you happy, we learn, as wealthy bloke pines for girl next door. Since house is so big, next door is miles away.
4. Wild-eyed, bushy-haired fellow on moors causes havoc with local females. If you haven't time to read it, listen to song with same name.
5. Sharp-toothed aristocratic night-owl shows interest in local girls. Sales of garlic go through the roof. Wood stakes big sellers too.
In case you haven't guessed:
1. Pride and Prejudice
2. Tess of the D'Urbevilles
3. The Great Gatsby
4. Wuthering Heights
5. Dracula
Any ideas for some new ones??????
