went to church after four and a half years of not going, felt very good...seemed weird that the sermon was totally in tune with whats going on with life and the trials we're going through. Lord works in miraculous ways.

had surgery Wed. and all went well, will be returning to work tomorrow. I'm very sore but glad it's done...had my tubes tied...my husband laughed when I said my last thought before going out was that I was glad I'm not some medieval housewife who didn't have this option or a say in how many kids I had...my two and just enough.

Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Hope recovery goes well, Nona.
You post reminded me of something my DIL's sister said the other day. The toddle grandaughter was staging a full-out 'terrible twos tantrum' in a restaurant, and Erica looked down and quipped, "Wow, my tubes just tied themselves!"

I take it you're talking about learning to drive. I didn't pass my test until I was 26. I did take lessons and took 3( :o :o) tests when I was 17 but I gave it up as a bad job. I started again when I was 26 and passed on my second attempt. My nerves go to pieces when I'm sitting next to a driving examiner or next to any sort of examiner for that matter. On my first test I remember doing a turn in the road and ended up facing the same way as I was going in the first place!!! You ought to have seen the examiner's face as I must've put him off his route. (I cried when I finally passed it.)

That's a great story, Vanessa! My learning-to-drive tale isn't quite so good.....

Like most Americans of my generation, I had a driver training class in high school. Three of us plus the instructor would go out driving at a time; and, of course, one of the three just happened to be one of the cutest guys in my class, so naturally I was a nervous wreck! Especially because our driver training car had a manual transmission. Looking back, I really didn't do too badly. At the time I was mortified because I laid rubber once or twice, but hey, I managed a hill start from a dead stop in the snow, without slipping a bit!!

The school later ditched the car and got one with an automatic transmission, after burning through I-don't-know-how-many clutches and at least one driver training teacher getting whiplash. I don't know why they ever went with a manual in the first place, very bad idea for a bunch of teenagers learning to drive!

Unlike most people (I think) I have actually lost confidence in myself as a driver as I've gotten older, rather than gained confidence. I think it's because I've been in a number of wrecks -- none of them serious, thank goodness, but nearly all of them my fault. I now hate to drive and will do almost anything to get someone else to do the driving! Of course, most of the time there isn't a someone else, so I'm forced to drive..... :( Just like the upcoming Labor Day weekend, I'm going to visit my mom 6 hours away and I'm already dreading the drive......
