Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

Wow, a beaver. I've never seen a live one outside of a zoo, although a town in the north bay had a whole family move into the creek where it runs through the downtown and build a dam. The residents of Martinez got to be very fond of the beaver family, altho there was quite a brouhaha from the water management agency whose job it is to keep the creek from flooding! :D
I'm in Livermore. Here is the link to Del Valle. You'd never guess that the place I hike is so close to suburbia-- from the top of the ridge, you can look south to the Ohlone wilderness, and beyond that to the Orestimba wilderness. Turn around and you see all of Livermore, Pleasanton, and Dublin. Maybe we can get Julianne to join us -- she lives just around the corner. Wildflowers are going crazy right now.
Oh, wow. I just checked; it's beautiful, and you can bring your dog for $2. My corgi Paris is recovering from a sprain right now, but as soon as she's better I'd love to meet up with you and Julianne, if she can make it. Great fun! I've never been to the East Bay regional parks, I'm ashamed to say, after twenty -odd years of living in the Bay Area.

My father spent a few years doing a residency at Oak Knoll Naval Hosp in San Leandro area and we lived in Pleasanton before moving onto the base. I went to kindergarten and first grade while living at Oak Knoll. Thanks for triggering the flashback! :) I remember box sliding down the tall dry grasses of the hills - and the wildflowers of course.

Sure wish I could join you all!

My daughter is flying in for the weekend (and bringing our dog back with her) and then tomorrow we are driving to Salt Lake City to see the Eagles in concert Saturday night (that's my Mother's Day present!). I have always wanted to see them.

Took mom to lunch at a restaurant that has great sushi on the island, and got her a stuffed purple dragon for Mother's Day. We can't go anywhere on Sunday cause there are no buses on the island then but we have a Chocolate Cream pie to eat.

Tanzy: Jealous you are seeing The Eagles, they're great!

well we did it we're moved and settled as much as we can be. The drive stinks, an hour and ten minutes one way, ugh but it so nice being out in a small town again. The girls are enrolled and excited about starting school in August and husband is excited that between 8am and 3pm he'll have his own time. Life is Grand at the moment.

Hope you continue to settle in well. Moving home can be so stressful; glad it sounds it went smoothly.

My sister called my mom this morning for Mother's Day and then a few hours later called to say that she's coming over to the island with the kids. My sister doesn't have her own car so she had to borrow one from the other grandmother of her sons. So my sister, her two sons and my other niece came over with food and cake, nice.

I've been very naughty. I went on google to see where I can buy the small pieces of Laffy Taffy cause we don't get them on the island and I don't go to Seattle or Tacoma that much and I found, Old Time Candy http://www.oldtimecandy.com/.

I bought a bag of 105 pieces for 12.99 and a 10 piece bag of Ice Cubes (a chocolate candy I haven't had since I was younger) for 3.99, and 8.95 for s/h.

So naughty!
