That is sad. Right before/after childbirth is not a good time to catch anything. Glad the baby is healthy though.

Sigh, the 3rd swine flu death in the US has happened in my own state. The man died on Weds but apparently he already had a pre-existing heart condition and it didn't help his health.

lol, how funny I found this thread. I'm not scared at all but I'm slightly obsessed with the numbers of it, everyday I go to the CDC website to check the stats even in Canada, my coworkers ask every morning for the update with a haha. I feel for those that have lost loved ones and friends.

Silly in-laws!

My husband has had a cold, and he had to travel to Melbourne (the swine-flu capital of Australia or so it would seem). So he comes back to Sydney, and he has lost his voice. He said he had a lot of people looking at him on the plane when he sneezed or talked/croaked!

So now I seem to be catching it too! No suprises there, and Joel might be too.

Now, the in laws asked to borrow DH car this week. FIL was speaking to DH about coming to pick it up, and he asked him if he was going to go to the doctor and get tested for Swine Flu - it is just a cold, no aches and pains, fever etc like the flu. So DH told him that he wasn't getting tested, he hasn't been to the doctor and he is getting better.

So FIL comes to pick up the car this afternoon - wearing a face mask! And you might think it was a joke right? But no MIL had told him that he had to wear it, and he did not take it off until he was in the car ready to go home.

When the news of the swine flu first broke, MIL asked if we were still going to send our son to preschool, as she wasn't going to let his twin cousins go, and she wasn't going to take them to the shops when she looks after them (most days). This was more than a month ago! Needless to say they ARE going to preschool and shops etc.

MIL is a panic merchant!

There's cases of Swine Flu just 3 miles from us. Schools have been closing due to cases being diagnosed. We've been told that if we have any signs of Influenza to stay away from work.

I haven't see anyone with a face mask on yet, I'm not too worried. I think a lot of it is media hype.

Although I am sure if I do get it, it'll be a nasty flu.

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Well, every cloud has a silver lining. My friends (the ones who adopted 12 kids from Ethiopia) just took the 4 teens who are still at home on a 4-day cruise down 'the Mexican Riviera' -- for $99 each! That's because they couldn't put into any port, so the cruise was just enjoy the ship facilities and Catalina Island. But $99 for four days of all-you-can-eat luxury cruiseliner was a thrill for those kids!
Then they dropped them off and did a seven-day second honeymoon run on the newest Carnival liner up to Victoria, Canada -- this one only $249 each -- again, a re-schedule from the Mexico itinerary, which had to be scrapped because of the swine flu.
