February 27 in royal history:

February 27, 1666 – Death of Luisa de Guzmán, wife of João IV of Portugal; buried at the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, Lisbon
Luisa was the mother of Catherine of Braganza,the wife of Charles II of England.

February 27, 1919 - Wedding of Princess Patricia of Connaught, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and The Honorable Alexander Ramsay, third son of the Earl of Dalhousie, at Westminster Abbey
This was the first royal wedding at Westminster Abbey since January 20, 1382 when Richard II married Anne of Bohemia, daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. There have only been eight additional royal weddings at Westminster Abbey since then. Princess Patricia was the daughter of Queen Victoria’s son Arthur, Duke of Connaught.

February 28, 1155 - Birth of Henry the Young King, son of Henry II, at Bermondsey Palace, Surrey

February 28, 1648 – Death of Christian IV of Denmark and Norway at Rosenborg Castle; buried at Roskilde Cathedral

February 28, 1922 - Wedding of Mary, Princess Royal, daughter of George V, and Henry, Viscount Lascelles (later 6th Earl of Harewood) at Westminster Abbey

February 28, 1941 - Death of Alfonso XIII of Spain in exile in Rome; buried first at the Church of Santa Maria di Monserrato in Rome; reburied in 1980 at the Monastery of San Lorenzo de el Escorial
Alfonso married Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg (Ena), the daughter of Princess Beatrice (Queen Victoria's youngest child). Alfonso and Ena are the grandparents of the current king of Spain, Juan Carlos.

February 28, 1991 - Death of Prince Wenzel of Liechtenstein

February 28, 2007 - Birth of Princess Lalla Khadija of Morocco, daughter of Mohammed VI of Morocco

March 1 in royal history:

March 1, 1244 - Death of Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, illegitimate son of Llywelyn Fawr (the Great) of Wales
Gruffydd died while trying to escape from the Tower of London. He was being held in the White Tower and supposedly he made a rope out of sheets and attempted to lower himself down. The sheets broke and Gruffydd fell to his death.

March 1, 1372 - Wedding of Edmund of Langley and Isabella of Castile

March 1, 1683 – Birth of Caroline of Ansbach, wife of George II, at Ansbach, Germany

March 1, 1865 – Death of Anna Pavlovna of Russia, wife of William III of the Netherlands, at The Hague; buried at Nieuwe Kerk, Delft

March 1, 1955 - Birth of Timothy Laurence, second husband of Princess Anne, at Camberwell, London

March 1, 1970 - Birth of The Honorable Serena Alleyne Stanhope, wife of David Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley (son of Princess Margaret), at Limerick, Ireland

March 2, 1936 - Death of Victoria Melita of Edinburgh, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, at Amorbach, Germany; first buried at the Ducal Mausoleum in Coburg, Germany, her remains were transferred to the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg Russia in 1995
Victoria Melita was the daughter of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia. She married his first cousin Grand Duke Ernest Louis of Hesse-Darmstadt but they divorced after seven years of marriage. After the divorce, she married her Romanov first cousin Grand Duke Kryill Vladimirovich.

March 2, 1939 - Birth of Princess Takako of Japan
Princess Takako is the youngest sister of Emperor Akihito. She lost her rank and imperial title when she married Mr. Shimazu Hisanaga. She is now known as Mrs. Shimazu Hisanaga.

March 2, 2003 - Birth of Eloise Taylor, daughter of Lady Helen Taylor (daughter of HRH The Duke of Kent)

March 4 in royal history:

March 4, 1152 - Frederick I (Barbarossa) elected Holy Roman Emperor
Emperor Frederick Barbarossa has appeared in German stories for centuries. He supposedly awakens from his sleep in a mountain in central Germany every hundred years to see if Germany needs his help as a leader.

March 4, 1188 – Birth of Blanche of Castile, wife of Louis VIII of France

March 4, 1238 - Death of Joan of England, daughter of King John, at Havering-atte-Bower, Essex, England; buried at Tarrant Crawford Abbey, Dorset
Joan was the eldest daughter and third child of King John and Isabella of Angouleme. She married King Alexander II of Scotland but they had no children.

March 4, 1394 - Birth of Prince Henry the Navigator, sponsor of Portuguese explorers
Prince Henry was a grandson of John of Gaunt, son of Edward III of England.

March 4, 1821 - Death of Princess Elizabeth of Clarence at St. James Palace; buried at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle
Elizabeth was the daughter of William, Duke of Clarence (the future William IV) and Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen. She was born prematurely on December 10, 1820. Elizabeth seemed to be in good health but she developed a fever and had convulsions on March 1, 1821. The cause of death was a strangulated hernia which was untreatable in 1821. During her short life, she was third in line to the throne and would have been queen instead of her cousin Victoria if she had lived.
