I’m reading The Beach by Alex Garland. It’s for my f2f book group and the theme was ‘adventure story’. I think it fits the bill as I’ve seen it described as a Lord of the Flies meets Lost type of book!
I’m also reading An Italian Scandal by Cecil Cameron via Pigeonhole. It’s a romantic adventure story set in the 19thC.

I'm taking a break from Victorian Gothic and going back to the Northumberland set DCI Ryan series, with The Shrine, set in and around Durham Cathedral.

i just finished reading this memoir called rumours of spring it is written by a Kashmiri woman about growing up under the indian occupation- it was truly so so very heart wrenching- The fact that it is called Rumours of spring really broke my heart because it pointed to the hope that gets often trampled on about a new beginning of self determination for her people and her. Just to balance out that v short 240 pager reality check giving book, I am also reading Jane Eyre- an old classic

Finished from the library: Kristin Lavransdattar by Sigrid Undset, translated by Tiina Nunnally
I read the Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition since it had the complete trilogy in one volume.
Seasons at Highclere by the Countess of Carnarvon (NF)
A fascinating in depth look at Highclere Castle during the year. This is the Countess's latest book about Highclere. I brought an autographed copy from PBS Shop since it was part of a promo sale.

I’m reading Wakynhurst by Michelle Paver, an Edwardian gothic ghost story. And via Pigeonhole Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult, a drama about a girl who is stranded on the Galapagos during the pandemic. I can think of worse places to be! 🏝

Listening to State of Terror by Hillary Clinton & Louise Penny. I'm really liking it. It's sort of fascinating, because it's so different than Penny's other books. The author's voice seems more Rodham Clintonesque than I expected. I'm about 3/4 through it so I'm looking forward to seeing how they wind up. But I would recommend it.
