They're definitely creepy! :o

I’ve finished The Silent Companions now. I thought it was a dark and compelling read. It reminded me a little of the film ‘Gaslight’ with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer! How to send someone mad!!

Marilla of Green Gables by Sarah McCoy
Young Marilla Cuthbert is the lead character in this novel, set years before Anne Shirley's arrival.

The prologue is set in 1876--Matthew and Marilla talk about getting help after Matthew has a fall in the barn. Side note: the book Anne of Green Gables Treasury by Carolyn S. Collins and Christina W. Erickson features a timeline for the Anne of Green Gables novels. I read and own the 2008 special edition of the book.

Preferred HF: I like a series the best - more to look forward to after one book ends. Masters of Rome, The Century Trilogy, & the Outlander series are some of my favorites.

Just finished the audiobook of Great Expectations by Dickens. Never read it before, although A Tale of Two Cities is one of my favorites. I realize my classic books education is lacking - thank goodness many classics are now available as audiobooks. At the end of the audiobook they had an editor's note that originally the ending was to be different, & they included that ending. They said that Dickens was convinced he needed a happier ending, & thank goodness. After investing hours in Pip I so wanted him to have a happy ending! Some of the dated language & slang used by some of the characters confused me, but I found myself sitting in my car more than once after I had arrived at someplace just to hear a little more of the story before leaving off. It's so wonderful when a 160ish year-old book can still be enjoyed today.
