I've just started The Forgotten Room by Ann Troup, another review book. It's set in a creepy old house so possibly another appropriate read!

The Widow of Windsor by Jean Plaidy ("Queen Victoria" #4)
The final novel in the "Queen Victoria" series covering Victoria's life. The novels were originally published 1972-74 and had been out of print for years. In 2008, the novels were reissued in the UK but not released in the US. With the "Victoria" TV series on PBS, I thought I'd get this series.
I read and own a reissue of Victoria Victorious, part of the "Queens of England" series.

Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

A Dangerous Legacy by Elizabeth Camden (Click on the title for full book description)
Opening in 1903 New York City, a young woman works as a telegraph operator in the Associated Press (AP) Office in the Western Union Building. Reuters Office is 2 floors up! The author will follow with a sequel next year.
From what I've read so far, it's descriptive of how the two news services operated at the time and news was reported by telegraph from across the US and overseas.

I'm reading Footsteps in the Dark by Georgette Heyer.
It's one of her mysteries and I'd say it's Halloween-appropriate - rather than a murder, the mystery is a haunted house. Although none of the characters believe there's an actual ghost (yet to be determined...), there are a few spooky moments!

Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman by Robert K. Massie - I binged-watched (10 episodes) of the Russian mini-series Ekaterina - The Rise of Catherine the Great on Amazon Prime this week. Beautiful costumes and scenery and also pretty accurate - highly recommend. I bought Massie's bio when it was first published in 2011. I read another bio of Catherine years ago and thought that now that I have some of the historical people in my brain and can picture them, it would be a good time to read Massie's bio. So far, so good.

I think I read that when it first came out, what a history. If you're looking for a fictional take on her early years, Annette Motley's Men on White Horses is quite good. Hopefully the price has settled down on the used copies.Susan wrote:Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman by Robert K. Thanks for the recommendation. I think I read Motley's novel about a Chinese empress.Misfit wrote:I think I read that when it first came out, what a history.
